FISHING
The lake has very little fishing pressure and a healthy population of walleye and northern pike. Wigwascence lake is known for its walleye and large northern pike. Right after the ice leaves the lake, walleye are typically gathered around their spawning areas in the early spring. That is near moving water of streams and rapids, in other areas along rocky shores. Wigwascence has numerous flowages into the lake where walleyes stack up. Rapids are another great place to catch walleyes on the river. After spawning, the walleyes scatter around the lake holding to structures such as rock points and underwater rock piles in approx 6-10 ft of water. As summer progresses, they will tend to go deeper. In spring, huge pike can be found in the shallow bays. During summer, July to Sept, the set up in the weeds, leading to deeper water.
Birch Bark Lodge is located 70 miles north of Pickle Lake in Northwestern Ontario’s wilderness. Pickle Lake is the most northerly point that you can drive to in Ontario, which assures you of realizing our slogan, “Into the Wild” at Birch Bark Lodge. The lodge is situated on the shores of Wigwascence Lake. This lodge’s unique feature is that there are only two cottages, and the main lodge with room for 14 guests.

Troutfly Outposts
The Troutfly Lake Outpost offers a remote experience second to none with the opportunity to catch both brook trout as well as lake trout in the world famous Albany River system. Located 60 miles east of Pickle Lake, this log cabin getaway also provides the ample opportunity to fish for walleye, whitefish and northern pike.
